Memorabilia Review

Memorabilia (2024)
the 7th part of my enhypen discography review! this EP compiles previous singles associated with their 'dark moon' series (i don't know if it's a webcomic, anime, or what...) and includes a new title track and some unit songs!
Ranking system:
๐ - it's peak.
๐ - great song that made me feel something. could slot into a playlist.
๐ - would listen to it voluntarily, a few flaws that are either easy to overlook or a bit charming
๐ฅญ - had potential but the finished product is very flawed
๐ - not going to seek it out, but won't outright complain if i hear it.
๐ - it does absolutely nothing for me but isn't offensive
๐ - does absolutely nothing for me and is offensive
๐ - so bad that it almost wraps back around to good just bc i was laffing so much
๐ - special pathetic label for songs that were too pathetic for me to feel good about ranking

- BOOOOOOOO TOMATOES TOMATOES
๐ One In A Billion
Kind of weird and ridiculous production. I like that the 'Fate' motif is kept up here. That's probably the only thing I like about it, though. Maybe the drums are a bit interesting, as well. Eh, not really. Melodically unsatisfying, sounds too much like farts, dull post-chorus. It's just an OST so they weren't sending their best or anything. I wouldn't listen to it again but I don't think it works as torture music either.
๐ Criminal Love
Niki learned how to do the funny voice a bit. I like that it's sorta waltzy. The instrumentation makes it all very dramatic. This is kinda so much better than the first song that I audibly breathed a sigh of relief. It's oddly musical-like, shouldn't they totally do more stuff like this? I'd imagine that the performance is fun, too. It follows beats that I can naturally imagine being 'acted out' if that makes sense. It's really easy to understand the story of the song, even without looking at the translation. The building of tension on the bridge is great, too.
๐ฅญ Fatal Trouble
I don't understand the way this song is structured. Where Criminal Love is easy to follow, Fatal Trouble is a bit muddled/confusing. I don't think it's bad, more just that it doesn't follow clear arcs/patterns. Or like, it does, it's just that the tone shifts between verse-prechorus and chorus-postchorus something awful. I can't tell what the vibe of the song is supposed to be. I think the idea of an emo yearning anthem from Heeseung's quivering vocal is actually great, but the execution here is really odd.
๐ Teeth (Heeseung & Maknae Line)
Whenever they sing about being actual vampires for real, I pog in amazement lmfao. Like it never gets old. Also this is a really intense song, what's with this atmosphere? I'm getting beaten over the head with a hammer. What's with that bridge??? The song threatens to fall apart completely before putting itself back together at the last second? A bit of a weird one. I think I like it. Will be listening again.
๐ Lucifer (02z)
Jake always sounds like he's actively having sex in songs like this. Honestly, the presence of Flubby here is kinda taking me out. Jay is kinda chewing the scenery. WHOA HOT FLUBMOANS ON THE TRACK??? HOLY PEAK. ok this is kino. they knew that 02z are the least threatening vampires so they gave them this self-flagellation anthem so they could dress them up in priest gear. I get it, too! Jay whines and wails so much on this that I could feel the collective twitches of oomves' dicks.
๐ Scream
A bit more of a straightforward one after the esoteric one-two punch of Teeth and Lucifer. Kinda of a OneRepublic outtake if I'm being real. But counting stars this ain't...it's okay though I have no complaints I'm just not particularly compelled by it.
